To remove pinion gear part for spinning reel, you have to remove a few parts firstly, such as; spool, rotor and roller clutch. After that, you may remove easily pinion gear with its bearing and washers.

When you planning to clean and re-lube for pinion gear, you need to do same for drive gear since both gears are working with together. Consider to see How to remove drive gear article.

In this article i’ll remove pinion gear of shimano nexave spinning reel.
Remove spool assembly
To removing spool assembly, turn it the drag knob to counter-clockwise.
Remove spool washers
Spool support and washers are located on the spool shaft of spinning reel. Remove them by pulling upward towards.
Remove rotor nut
If is there any small screw located in the right of the nut, this used as retainer and you need to remove it by screwdriver first.
To removing rotor nut, use the 13mm of nut wrench.
The rotor nut was removed.
Lift rotor assembly
To reach the anti-reverse roller clutch bearing, lift the rotor assembly from reel body.
Remove roller clutch mounting screws
Use the Philips screwdriver to remove this roller clutch screws.
Remove roller clutch anti-reverse assembly
After remove the screws, remove roller clutch assembly from pinion gear’s shaft.
Remove roller clutch sleeve
The roller clutch sleeve is recommended to remove before the removal of pinion gear.
Remove pinion gear
You may remove the pinion gear easily. just pull out it upward towards.
The pinion gear is ready for maintenance or replacement
Pinion gear was removed and it’s ready for cleaning, re-lube or replacement.
